When the Money in the Bank ladder match was given its own PPV, WWE worked hard to ensure that each show felt important. The PPV has become a crucial one of the WWE calendar and that’s because the shows usually have an amazing card on a regular basis.
10 Wrestlers With The Best Claim To Be On The Mount Rushmore Of The MITB Ladder Match
The 2012 show certainly provided that. With two Money in the Bank matches, one exclusively for former World Champions, while there were also two great World Title matches, one which provided a real dream bout scenario for wrestling fans. While not every single match was a classic, for the most part, this is one of the strongest Money in the Bank events of all time.
Ryback Vs. Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks
Ryback vs Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins
This was one of the more random matches in MITB history, with Ryback taking on both Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks. They’re a duo that most fans have forgotten about at this point, and it’s because of performances like this that they didn’t become memorable.
10 Attitude Era Wrestlers Who Would’ve Thrived In Money In The Bank Matches
This came early on in Ryback’s run where he was dominating multiple wrestlers at the same time. While Reks and Hawkins were able to get a little offense early on, this was essentially a squash match that focused on making Ryback look fantastic.
Kaitlyn, Layla, & Tamina Snuka Vs. Beth Phoenix, Eve Torres, & Natalya
Kaitlyn, Layla, & Tamina Snuka vs. Beth Phoenix, Eve Torres, & Natalya
A six-woman tag team match that isn’t given over four minutes is never going to be great. There was barely enough time for each woman to get involved in the match here, let alone put together some memorable moments and begin to build momentum.
It’s a real shame that this match was so short because the talent involved in this bout is incredible. Had they been given an actual run together, there’s a chance that they could have done something special.
Primo & Epico Vs. The Prime Time Players
Primo & Epico vs Prime Time Players
This match was given a little bit more time than the women, but that didn’t necessarily help the match. All four men worked hard in a match that had a large amount of outside interference with Rosa Mendes and A.W. at ringside.

However, Primo and Epico brought some real high-flying skills to this one, proving exactly what they were capable of. Meanwhile, The Prime Time Players were solid in everything that they did, with the two teams going back-and-forth throughout.
Sheamus (C) Vs. Alberto Del Rio (World Heavyweight Championship Match)
Sheamus Beats of the Bodhran on Albert Del Rio
“The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus and “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio always had nice chemistry together in the ring, with their styles being well suited together. Sheamus brought the hard-hitting elements while Del Rio was far more technical with his strikes and quick movement coming together well.
Del Rio tried to work Sheamus over throughout the match with methodical attacks which did tell a nice story. However, the match would have benefitted from a few more near falls or a slightly faster pace to truly grip the crowd, which went hot and cold throughout this one.
Money In The Bank Ladder Match (WWE Championship Contract)
This match only had five wrestlers involved, although all of them were former WWE Champions which added a lot of star power to this one. The encounter was brilliantly put together with a nice balance between big spots and solid in-ring wrestling using the ladders.
5 Youngest Money In The Bank Winners (& The 5 Oldest)
Everyone had a moment in this one to look like a star, but the fact that it was clear John Cena was winning meant that fans didn’t quite buy into the close calls as much as normal.
Money In The Bank Ladder Match (World Heavyweight Championship Contract)
Dolph Ziggler MITB 2012
While the latter ladder match had lots of established names, this bout had a lot of fresh stars who were not main event World Champions. That brought a lot of attention to the match immediately and the wrestlers all delivered.
This match had great pace with something happening at all times with a lot of smaller wrestlers from Dolph Ziggler and Tyson Kidd impressing. There weren’t any major bumps here that went down in the history books, but it was a terrific match and proved they’re not necessary.
CM Punk (C) Vs. Daniel Bryan (NoDQ WWE Championship Match)
CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan at Money in the Bank 2012
Anytime you put two talents like CM Punk and Daniel Bryan together, there is going to be magic created. That is exactly what happened within this match which stole the show without the need for any ladders or briefcases.
With AJ Lee as a special guest referee really adding to the story, the two men got down to business. The back-and-forth action was superb with a great balance between great wrestling and using the weapons in a bout that could have gone either way, bringing the audience in throughout it.
