Backstage Notes On WWE’s Upcoming Plans For Roman Reigns [Report]

Following his victory over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns will likely get more television time in the short-term future.

With the win over Lesnar, Reigns became the new WWE Unified Champion. He appeared on this week’s episode of WWE Raw and informed fans that his next step would be revealed on SmackDown. Since he carries the lone world championship in WWE for male superstars, Reigns will likely be on Raw for the foreseeable future.

Dave Meltzer wrote in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, theoretically speaking, The Tribal Chief “will appear on both Raw and Smackdown for the time being” until a new major championship is introduced. Meltzer previously reported that the lone world title format would only be temporary, and that both brands would each have one going forward.

In the Observer, Meltzer also explained that the feud between Reigns and Lesnar is now over. While fans will soon find out who Reigns’ next challenger is, it’s anybody’s guess what the company will do with Lesnar. The 44-year-old works on a part-time basis but showed up frequently for his WrestleMania program with Reigns.

For what it’s worth, Lesnar is being advertised for WWE’s next pay-per-view, WrestleMania Backlash. That show will be held at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island on May 8.

Roman Reigns Is 3-2 All Time vs. Brock Lesnar

Very few WWE talents hold a career winning record against Lesnar, but Reigns is on that short list. The win at WrestleMania 38 moved Reigns to 3-2 all-time against Lesnar head-to-head. The latter won the first two meetings (WrestleMania 34 and The Greatest Royal Rumble), but Reigns came back with three straight wins: SummerSlam 2018, Crown Jewel 2021 and now WrestleMania 38.

Their first showdown at WrestleMania 31 was interrupted by Seth Rollins, who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
