WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed one of the biggest regrets of his WWE career is that he didn’t get more opportunities to work with Booker T.
The Rock took to Twitter to heap praise on Booker after another former WWE Superstar, Shane “The Hurricane” Helms tweeted that The Rock and Booker T were two of his favorite opponents.
“Doing cardio watching [The Rock] vs [Booker T] from [WWE] SummerSlam 2001. Two of my favorite opponents and favorite people I’ve worked with in the Biz. I wish these two woulda had more matches together,” Hurricane wrote.
The Rock replied to Hurricane’s tweet and said that he regrets that he wasn’t able to have more matches with Booker while both men were active members of WWE’s roster.
“He was one of my fav workers and the best pure athlete I’ve ever wrestled,” The Rock said. “Fluid, sharp, believable movements and work style. I always say his moves had a rare swagger.”
As you might recall, The Rock and Booker T went one-on-one for the WCW Championship at SummerSlam 2001 during the infamous WCW/ECE invasion angle. The Rock won the match and became the first WWE Superstar to hold the WCW Championship, which would be unified with the WWF Championship later in the year.
Despite being two of the biggest stars of the era, The Rock and Booker T only wrestled four singles matched together. Today, both men are in excellent shape for their age, and although it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever see them in a ring together again.
A match with Booker is probably a no-go, but we could see The Rock wrestle his cousin Roman Reigns sometime soon. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that WWE is hoping The Rock will return for a match at either the next WrestleMania or the one after.
“Obviously The Rock & Roman Reigns is something that they’re building towards and it would be — every year gets tougher and tougher because Dwayne gets a year older and, you know, but I think he really wants to do a match against Roman Reign,” Meltzer explained. “I think for sure it’ll be in the next two WrestleManias, and if he can pull it off, the next WrestleMania.”
The Rock announced his retirement from professional wrestling back in 2019, but recently The Great One has said that he’d be interested in facing Reigns under the right circumstances. Reigns also stated that a match with The Rock at WrestleMania “makes sense.”
